The going is forecast to be good to firm and the cream of Cornish society is sure to be in attendance. If you wish to purchase your tickets for this popular event before hand to avoid a crush at the entrance just pop along to the Box Office, One Step Ahead, Molesworth St., Wadebridge who will have tickets available from the beginning of November or place your bets( sorry , orders) with any member of the Committee.

Update on play reading

The play reading on Wednesday 28th September has been changed.  We will now be reading ‘Blood Brothers’, the long running and popular West End Musical by Willy Russell. Don’t fret, there is no requirement to sing (unless you want to!) as all musical parts will be provided by CD. As ever this is an informal social event and please feel free to pop along and invite friends.

Here is a brief summary courtesy of http://www.britinfo.net/theatre/synopsis1000005.htm

Willy Russell’s classic musical ‘Blood Brothers’ is set in Liverpool and is about twins separated at birth but whose paths cross in later life.

Now commonly regarded as one of the all time great British musicals, Blood Brothers has touched the hearts and minds of a generation of theatregoers in dealing with two of the most pressing social issues of our time – inequality and unemployment. The story of Blood Brothers takes us to Liverpool, around the time of the coal miner strikes. Beginning with the birth of twin brothers.

A single mother in financial desperation gives away one of her new-born sons and attempts to keep them from discovering one another’s true identity. However, their lives become unavoidably linked and her secrecy leads them to a tragic ending.

The pressures of superstition, economics and class trap them both and seal their fate – their paths are destined to cross again in both friendship and anger with the most tragic consequences imaginable.

A powerful and moving story, with both lively and sad parts. A wonderful tale that will capture your heart and leave a lasting impression. The show is both hilariously funny, deeply moving and features loads of well-known songs.

Play reading…

We have arranged a Play Reading at the Betjeman Centre at 7.30p.m. on Wednesday, 28th Sept.  “Good Things” by Liz Lochhead has been enthusiastically recommended to us and we are trying hard to obtain copies of this play as she appears to be a talented and versatile contemporary writer of plays, books and poetry. If we cannot get this play, never fear, we shall find a suitable alternative for all those of you not involved in Ladies Day. If you have a suggestion for a future play reading or would like to host one please let us know.
